Seat selection is only available for Individual Fares, JMB Domestic Award Tickets, and Individual Inclusive Tour Fares.
(Some fares for groups traveling together may not be eligible for this service.)
How to request
Seats may be requested upon making reservations.
If your reservation is made during the two days before or on the departure date, seat selection will be available after ticket purchase or during open ticket registration.
Seat selections are accepted up to 20 minutes prior to your flight’s scheduled departure time (some flights excluded).
There are a limited number of seats available for reservations. The seats available for reservation differ by fare type.
More seats may become available 48 hours before the scheduled departure time. (Not all seats or fares are eligible for pre-selection.)
You are able to board without reserving a seat. Please reserve your seat the day before the flight or on the day of the flight, at the departure airport.
Available aircraft types and unavoidable changes to pre-reserved seat assignments
Pre-selected seat numbers may change, or may be canceled without prior notice, in cases of aircraft configuration changes or for other reasons. (Seats adjacent to your travel companion cannot be guaranteed.) In addition, seats re-assigned within two days prior to departure for the above reasons may not be reflected on the JAL website.
Passengers traveling with children under three years of age
Priority seats at the back row of the Class J cabin are recommended.
Exclusive seats for passengers traveling with two infants can be selected online.
Requests for passengers assigned to an emergency exit row seat.
In accordance with a directive issued by the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, starting April 1, 2009, for the safety of all passengers, emergency exit seats will be limited to passengers that satisfy all of the conditions below.
Aged 15 years or above (assignment is not permitted for minors under 15 years of age).
Does not require the assistance of an escort or staff.
Is capable of assisting in an emergency evacuation, such as opening or closing an aircraft door.
Can understand evacuation procedures and crew instructions, and verbally convey such information to other passengers.
Does not have to assist an accompanying passenger in an emergency evacuation.*
Consents to providing assistance in an emergency evacuation.
Passengers who do not satisfy conditions 1 through 6 above will be asked to change to another seat. To ensure quick evacuation of the aircraft, passengers seated in emergency exit rows will be asked to assist during an emergency evacuation by following the instructions of the cabin crew.
Carry-on baggage must not be placed at your feet or on your lap during takeoff or landing. We appreciate your cooperation.
*Small children (domestic flights: under eight years old; international flights: under 12 years old) and their companions are not eligible to use emergency exit row seats.
