QWhat is JAL International Award Ticket PLUS?
A
JAL International Award Ticket PLUS is a new service^* that allows you to redeem additional miles to book award travel for requests that would have been waitlisted under the conventional required mileage levels.

No changes will be made to award tickets that can be booked with base miles.
- *Depending on seat availability (such as flights being fully booked), award tickets may not be available for booking.
QWhen does the service officially start?

JAL International Award Ticket PLUS is scheduled to start in December 2018. A specific date will be announced on the JAL website once it has been finalized.
QI don't understand how many additional miles are needed for JAL International Award Ticket PLUS. Can you explain further?

A

Awards tickets will have a variety of mileage levels depending on the route, time of year and reservation date. For this reason, the mileage requirements are being published in mileage ranges. After the introduction of JAL International Award Ticket PLUS, you can refer to the JAL website's seat availability check pages to find up-to-date mileage levels (the total number of miles needed for an award ticket, including additional miles).
QHow do I change my reservation after the introduction of JAL International Award Ticket PLUS?

To change your reservation, please cancel/refund your existing award ticket and then book a new ticket for your desired flight. A refund charge of ¥3,100 (tax included)* will apply when you refund your award ticket.

QWill I be able to waitlist for flights after the introduction of JAL International Award Ticket PLUS?

A

Waitlisting will not be permitted for Economy Class, Premium Economy Class and Business Class. However, you will be able to book award tickets by redeeming the mileage required based on seat availability at the time of booking after the introduction of JAL International Award Ticket PLUS.

Please note that depending on seat availability (such as flights being fully booked), award tickets may not be available for booking.

Waitlisting will be permitted for First Class.
QHow many miles are required for children/infants using JAL International Award Ticket PLUS?

A

There will be no changes to the required mileage levels for children & infants after the launch of JAL International Award Ticket PLUS.

Awards issued for children and for infants who occupy their own seat require the same mileage as those issued for adults. Awards for infants sharing a seat with an adult will be issued at 10% of the applicable adult mileage level.
QHow long will I remain on the waitlist for First Class?

A

The current waitlist holding periods will apply pursuant to the existing rules.

QIf I don't have enough miles, can I pay the difference with cash or e JAL Points to book an award ticket?

A

No, cash or e JAL Points cannot be used to book award tickets.
QWill the Discount Mileage Promotion and other promotions still be offered after the start of JAL International Award Ticket PLUS?

A

A decision has not yet been made. Information will be announced on the JAL website on an ongoing basis when promotions are offered.
QWill JAL International Award Ticket PLUS also be introduced for JAL International Upgrade Awards, JMB Partner Airlines Award Tickets and oneworld Award Tickets?

A

We currently have no plans to introduce JAL International Award Ticket PLUS for JAL International Upgrade Awards, JMB Partner Airlines Award Tickets or oneworld Award Tickets, and have made no changes to the rules for these award tickets.

Reservations and tickets requested before the start of JAL International Award Ticket PLUS

QI have a JAL International Award Ticket that permits reservation changes. How do I change my reservation after the launch of JAL International Award Ticket PLUS?

After the launch of JAL International Award Ticket PLUS, reservation changes will still be accepted via the JAL website or by phone based on the rules as of the time of the award ticket issuance, but only when seats are available at the base mileage level.
Please note that requests to change an award ticket to a higher class for the same flight sectors are currently accepted without applying the refund charge. However, after JAL International Award Ticket PLUS is introduced, the refund charge will be applied for such requests and a new ticket will be issued. (The new rules will apply to the new ticket.)
QI currently have a waitlisted reservation. How will I be affected?

After the introduction of JAL International Award Ticket PLUS, your waitlisted reservation will continue to be held until the end of the waitlist holding period. However, changes are not permitted for waitlisted reservations after the start of JAL International Award Ticket PLUS.
If your seat is confirmed after the launch of JAL International Award Ticket PLUS, the ticket will be arranged based on the new rules^*.
- *Required mileage will be the base miles applicable after the launch of JAL International Award Ticket PLUS.
If you are waitlisted for any of the following itineraries and your seat is confirmed after the start of JAL International Award Ticket PLUS, your itinerary must be changed in accordance with the new rules. Please contact JMB International Award Reservations Desk/JMB Center for assistance.
- Itineraries via Japan that originate and terminate outside Japan
- Itineraries that combine First Class with other class(es) of service
- Itineraries that include Japan domestic sectors

QI have an award ticket for travel on flight sectors that will require fewer miles after the start of JAL International Award Ticket PLUS. Will changes be permitted to adjust the deducted miles?

A

Required mileage levels effective at the time of award ticket issue (ticketing) will apply. No refunds will be issued and no additional deductions will be made for differences in mileage resulting from revisions to required mileage levels. If you wish to change your reservation, please cancel/refund your existing award ticket and then book a new ticket. In this case, a refund charge will apply.
