You can walk through Natori Kitakama Farm’s greenhouses, an initiative created to support regional revitalization. This area reflects the community’s resilience and renewal after the earthquake disaster. Yuriage Port Morning Market

Yuriage Port Morning Market is a lively spot in the heart of the Yuriage District. Open on weekends, it offers fresh seafood, local produce, and handmade goods from the region. Visitors can enjoy a taste of local life by trying freshly grilled fish, gourmet sashimi and sushi, and other seasonal dishes. 

The market has become a symbol of Yuriage’s recovery, bringing locals and travelers together in a vibrant community space. It’s the perfect place to experience the spirit and flavors of the Sendai Plain.

Kawamachi Terrace Yuriage

Kawamachi Terrace Yuriage is a modern riverside complex that reflects the revitalization of the Yuriage District. This welcoming space features cafes, shops, and outdoor seating where visitors can relax and enjoy river views.

The Teizan Canal is a historic pathway ordered by Lord Date Masamune. Walking along this canal allows you to experience its beauty and significance. This area faced severe damage during the Great East Japan Earthquake. However, it is gradually recovering and revitalizing. 

New facilities, like Aqua Ignis Sendai, are being built to enhance the area. Visitors can enjoy a peaceful stroll while taking in the sights of nature and history. The Teizan Canal is a symbol of resilience and renewal, making it a must-visit spot along your journey.

Visit the historic town of Tagajo and its ruins

In the historic town of Tagajo, you can explore ancient sites that reflect Japan's Nara-period heritage. Walking through Tagajo's streets, you'll see a mix of old and new. The town's beauty and history make for a unique experience. Local guides can share the town's past, helping you understand its importance.

The Tagajo Ruins, once a provincial capital and military base, stand as a testament to this region's strategic importance. Restoration work on the Tagajo South Gate is underway, preparing it for a public opening in April 2025. This restoration celebrates the 1300th anniversary of Tagajo’s founding, first established in 724. Sushi in Shiogama

Shiogama is a delightful port town known for its exceptional gourmet sushi. It has the highest ratio of sushi restaurants per capita in Japan. This makes it a must-visit destination for sushi lovers. Sendai City Arahama Elementary School Earthquake Ruins

The earthquake ruins of Arahama Elementary School stand as a symbol of resilience after the Great East Japan Earthquake. This place marks a chapter of deep loss and recovery for the local community. On March 11, 2011, it was a shelter for 320 people, including students, teachers, and residents.

They sought refuge from the tsunami. Climbing to the rooftop, their unity gave them strength in a dire moment.

The school building suffered significant damage during the disaster and is now open to the public. It stands as a monument to the lessons learned from the earthquake and the memories of the local community. 

Visitors can walk through the ruins to reflect on the past and understand the resilience of the people in this area. This site plays an important role in educating future generations about the impact of natural disasters.

Michinoku Coastal Trail Natori Trail Center

The Michinoku Coastal Trail is a great chance for outdoor fun. It stretches for over 1,000 kilometers, linking cities and towns in four Tohoku region prefectures. It starts in Hachinohe City, Aomori Prefecture, and ends in Soma City, Fukushima Prefecture. It's perfect for finding peace and beauty along the coast.

The Natori Trail Center is at the heart of this long trail in Natori City, Miyagi Prefecture. It's a key spot for hikers, offering info on routes, safety, and trail conditions. At the center, visitors can find detailed information about the trail's routes and nearby attractions. Friendly staff are available to answer questions and provide maps. Whether you want a casual walk or a tough hike, the center helps you enjoy your trip.

The center also hosts exhibitions that highlight the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the area. It's the perfect starting point for anyone looking to explore the stunning scenery and rich history along the trail.

Since 2019, the Michinoku Coastal Trail has had many trails for all hikers. For a short trip, try the 9-kilometer path from Kabushima to Tanesashi Coast. It's great for beginners. For a big challenge, the Taro Route in Iwate Prefecture is a 10-hour hike that needs an overnight stay.

As you walk, you'll see amazing views and over 650 types of plants. Don't miss the Ashigezaki Observatory for views of Hashikami-dake Peak and the Pacific. Also, visit Osuka Beach for its soft sands and the Tanesashi Natural Lawn, once for horse rearing.
