Hirosaki Cherry Blossom Festival

The Hirosaki Cherry Blossom Festival, held annually from late April to early May, is one of the largest cherry blossom festivals in the Tohoku region, attracting about 2 million visitors from all over Japan. Visitors can enjoy viewing around 2,600 cherry trees of approximately 50 varieties, including Somei Yoshino cherry blossoms, Shidarezakura (Weeping Cherry), and Yaezakura (Double Layer Cherry). The cherry blossoms lining the outer moat of Hirosaki Castle are reflected in the water's mirrored surface, creating a breathtaking spectacle. The "hanaikada," where fallen petals carpet the surface of the moat, and the illuminated cherry blossoms at night, are also magical sights.

The Togekuri crab is also known as the hanami crab (cherry blossom viewing crab) because it is in season in spring, making it an essential part of spring in Aomori. During spring, its roe is packed with a rich, flavorful crab miso, giving it an exquisite taste unlike any other crab.

Summer

Aomori Nebuta Festival

The Aomori Nebuta Festival is a Japanese fire festival held annually in Aomori City from August 2nd to 7th. Nebuta floats, crafted with incredible soul by skilled artisans, are a powerful sight to behold.  As dancers called "Haneto" whirl around, their chants of "Rassera, rassera" fill the air. Experience the heat and energy of Aomori in summer, when the long, harsh winter finally gives way to spring, and the pent-up energy of the people explodes into this vibrant festival.

For those seeking the festival spirit year-round, Michinoku Matsuriya at Aomoriya by Hoshino Resorts offers a unique "365 Day Festival" experience.
