Tokyo never loses its energy, even during the COVID-19 pandemic, which saw the opening of new facilities we hope you will visit. Japanese food goes beyond sushi and sashimi, and one of Tokyo’s major appeals is that you can eat delicious food from all over Japan. Besides gourmet cuisine, there are countless cheap delicacies. Ramen is a must when coming to Japan. It is also a must to grill your own monjayaki, and to check out a Japanese-style izakaya bar for sake and local food.
Only about two hours from the city center, Tokyo’s Tama area offers a treasure trove of outdoor activities. Rafting and canyoning in Okutama are popular activities that offer authentic experiences in the abundant mountain streams of the Tama River. Trekking and cycling are also great ways to see the natural world as it changes from season to season.
It is great to stay in a relaxing place, even when visiting a big city. Tokyo has many hotels excellent hospitality that will fulfill such a wish. Onsen Ryokan Yuen Shinjuku and Hoshinoya are ryokan inns with hot springs despite being in the heart of the city, and Gajoen offers beautiful gardens, arts, and crafts. Why not try a luxurious stay away from the hustle and bustle of the city?
Visiting Tokyo’s downtown offers a different atmosphere from the city center. Asakusa, Nihonbashi, and other downtown areas are lined with venerable establishments. Venture down the alleyways to find shops crowded with locals. Join them to enjoy local cuisine, look for souvenirs, and ask for recommendations. Meeting people is one of the joys of traveling.
