The Amami Archipelago is located at 28 degrees north latitude, about halfway between Kagoshima and Okinawa, and includes Amami Oshima, Kakeromajima, Yoroshima, Ukejima, Kikaijima, Tokunoshima, Okinoerabu, and Yoron.
