Submission of "Declaration of Accompanied Articles and Unaccompanied articles" card for Customs declaration and Electronic Customs Declaration Gates (e-Gates) on the entry of Japan

Japan Customs requires all passengers entering Japan to submit a "Declaration of Accompanied Articles and Unaccompanied articles" card (customs declaration form) to the customs officer in order to prevent terrorism and smuggling, and to ensure prompt and proper customs clearance.

In addition, Japan Customs recommends submitting declarations electronically via the“Visit Japan web” for smooth customs procedures.

Please login to the“Visit Japan Web” from the 2D barcode bellow, and follow the instructions to complete the entry of your customs declaration information. After that, a 2D barcode (with a light blue line on top) for customs declaration will be created.

At airport, please hold the 2D barcode and your IC passport over the scanner of electronic declaration terminal placed at the customs inspection area. Then you will be able to pass through the electronic customs declaration gate smoothly.

  • Passengers may be questioned or have their baggage inspected by customs officers.
  • Even at airports where electronic customs declaration gate is not equipped, electronic declaration can be carried out using a 2D barcode reader installed at the customs inspection table.

Access to “Visit Japan Web”

Please note that the existing paper version of the Customs Declaration Form can still be used.

For more details, please check out the Japan Customs website.

Furthermore, when passing through customs at the airport, passengers can now use mobile payment apps and credit cards to pay any customs duties, consumption taxes, etc. on their personal belongings, etc.
