On the 2nd floor, there are Arrival bus gates and stairs/escalators to the 1st floor. On the 1st floor, there are immigration control, toiletsand baggage claim. Once you pass through customs, there are toilets, currency exchange offices and elevators You can find buses and taxis outside.

Documents required for entry
Required documents Description
VISA Japanese passport holders are permitted to enter the country without a visa provided that the duration of stay is no longer than 90 days within a period of 6 months.
Passport Finland and other Schengen Zone countries require visitors to hold a passport that has at least 3 months' validity from the date of departure.
A return flight ticket or e-ticket Please bring it.

Customs

Duty-free applies to tobacco purchases by passengers aged 17 and above, and alcohol purchases by passengers aged 18 and above.
Passengers under the age of 20 are restricted to beverages with an alcohol content of 22% or lower.
If your goods are not in excess of the duty-free limit, please proceed to the green lane. Otherwise, please proceed through the red lane to declare your goods and present them for inspection.

Pets

Prior reservation is necessary if you wish to bring your pet, as the transportation environment within the aircraft needs to be prepared.

Please also be sure to check with the embassy or quarantine station at your destination for animal quarantine information such as import restrictions and required documentation.

At the 2nd floor Departure area, there are check-in counters, elevators, currency exchange offices, toilets. Once you pass through security, there are currency exchange offices, elevators, toilets, Finnair Lounge and Tax Refund. After passing through  immigration control and Auto gates for Japanese nationality holders, there are transit counters, toilets, Finnair Platinum Wing and Finnair Business Lounge (Under renovation).

Departure regulations

Check-in

Check-in opens 2 hours 40 minutes before departure time.

Please check in at JAL Check in counter. Please do check and confirm the counter at airport information. 

*Please note that the maximum weight per item of checked baggage on JAL Group flights leaving from Helsinki Vantaa International Airport must not be in excess of 32kg (70lbs).

Security check

Your carry-on baggage will be checked in an X-ray machine.

Information about the Security check priority lane
  • The following passengers are able to use the priority lane located at the Security check area in the center of the departures lobby.
    1. Business Class passengers
    2. Passengers with JMB Diamond / Sapphire / Crystal, JGC Premier, JGC, oneworld Emerald / Sapphire / Crystal status, plus one accompanying passenger
  • Look for signs saying "Premium Lane".
  • You can gain access by showing your boarding pass and status card.

Passengers holding a Japanese IC passport can use the automated gate. (There are times when it cannot be used.)  Passengers traveling with infants and passengers using wheelchairs should use the manned window.

Customs

  • *You may be asked to present the goods for inspection during the duty-free check. There can sometimes be a long wait, so please ensure that you allow plenty of time.
  • *If you are returning to Japan via transfer from another EU country, you will need to carry out customs procedures at the final EU airport from which your Japan-bound flight departs. It is still possible that you may be asked to present the items for inspection, so please ensure that you do not put them in your checked baggage on the connecting flight.
