Terminal 1

In the immigration control area of Terminal 1, there is immigration control and toilets (wheelchair accessible), at the baggage claim area, there is transit counters, and Once you pass through customs, there are toilets (wheelchair accessible), airport information counters, currency exchange offices, elevators, and exits to outside.

Required documents Description
VISA

Japan is an eligible country under the United States Visa Waiver Program (VWP).
Japanese passport holders are permitted to enter the country without a visa provided that the duration of stay is up to 90 days, and the purpose of travel is tourism or business. (However, an ESTA application must be made beforehand.)

Depending on the purpose of visit (study, work, etc.), a visa or additional documentation may be required. Please contact the US Embassy for further information.
(Example: A visa and supplementary documentation (I-20) are required if the purpose of the visit is study.)
US permanent residents and conditional permanent residents must show their permanent resident or conditional permanent resident cards (Green Card/I-551).

  • *Please note: If you are traveling after April 1, 2016 with ESTA on the Visa Waiver Program, it is essential that you are in possession of an IC passport. If you do not have an IC passport, you will need to apply for a visa.

A machine-readable passport (MRP) or an IC passport (IC chipped) valid until the date of return to your home country.

Customs

Inspection process for Customs will be conducted at Immigration by CBP officer. If you have any items to declare, please declare them to an official.

Pets

Prior reservation is necessary if you wish to bring your pet, as the transportation environment within the aircraft needs to be prepared. Please contact JAL International Reservations - Inquiries in advance.
Please also be sure to check with the embassy or quarantine station at your destination for animal quarantine information such as import restrictions and required documentation.

Terminal 1

At Terminal 1, there are elevators, check-in counters, E and F counters, and toilets (wheelchair accessible), and Once you pass through security, there are currency exchange offices, Lufthansa Lounge and the Air France lounge.

Japan Airlines departs from Terminal 8 at the John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Japan Airlines check-in counters are located at the departure floor of Terminal 8 to check in. 
Check the location of the check-in counter on the airport monitor.
For passengers arriving from connecting flights, passengers without checked baggage holding home print boarding passengers or QR codes may see an agent at the applicable lounge or departure gate.

Security check

Your carry-on baggage will be examined, and there will be a check for liquids in your possession.

Immigration

You do not have to go through Immigration when departing the United States.

Customs

There is no customs inspection when departing from the United States.
However, passengers who hold over 10,000 USD must declare to Customs and Boarder Protection before departing the United States.

Lounge

The Soho Lounge, The Greenwich Lounge and Admirals Club Lounge are available in the John F. Kennedy International Airport.
