Entering names

Important notes on entering names

To board an international flight, the name on your passport must match the name on your ticket.

If the passport and ticket names do not match, you will not be able to board for security reasons.

The name on your ticket cannot be changed once booking is complete.

Customers make a variety of errors when entering names. Frequent errors include reversing first and last names, misspelling names, and entering the wrong names for accompanying passengers.

Please be sure all names are entered correctly when booking flights.

Important notes on booking through the JAL website

Enter names exactly as spelled in the passport

Names cannot be changed once booking is complete.

Enter names in last - first - middle order

Names should be entered in the order last - first - middle.

If your passport lists a middle name, please enter it in the “Middle Name” field.

If your passport does not distinguish between first and last names

You cannot book via the JAL website.

Bookings are available through the JAL Contact Center.

If your last name is a single letter

Because JAL’s booking system requires names to be at least 2 letters long, please enter the same letter twice.

If your last name has changed (or will change)

If you will be using a passport listing your former last name, please book your ticket using that former name.

If your passport will be updated to list your new last name, please book using that new name.

The name on your ticket cannot be changed once booking is complete.

If your name contains a large number of letters

The number of letters that can be entered is limited.

If entering your name triggers a character limit error, please contact the JAL Contact Center to complete your booking.

If your passport name contains parentheses or brackets, such as ( ) or [ ]

Please enter the parts of the name outside of the parentheses or brackets.

If your passport name contains spaces or special characters such as hyphens or periods

Please exclude special characters such as hyphens and periods when entering your name.

You may also replace these special characters with spaces.

If your passport name contains spaces, you may either enter them or exclude them.
