Kopernik is a NPO that undertakes activities for "Connecting country to country," "Environmental conservation," "Improving sanitation and health in developing countries," (Safety and Security) and "Improving children's lives and expanding the opportunity to study" (Nurturing the next generation). These activities also resonate with the CSR activities of the JAL Group. Since 2013, we have been engaged in the Connecting People to People, Bridging Japan and the World Project to expand the impact of such activities through collaboration. JAL will offer ongoing support to Kopernik's activities, including the provision of air tickets.

Help Provide Solar Lights to Medical Clinics in the Philippines! - Charity Mile Project
We will be accepting Charity Miles from JAL Mileage Bank (JMB) members from 10:00 a.m. (Japan time), May 20, 2014 (Tue.) until August 17, 2014 (Sun.). Charity Miles will be accepted in units of 3,000 miles.
In the Philippines, many of the smaller islands still do not have access to electricity. As a result, hospitals, medical clinics, and other key facilities in such regions rely on dim kerosene lamps for lighting. In addition to posing a serious fire risk, kerosene lamps emit smoke and fumes that are known to cause serious health issues. The high cost of kerosene also translates into a significant financial burden for kerosene lamp users.
In response to this situation, this latest Charity Mile Project will focus on hospitals, medical clinics, schools, community centers, agricultural cooperatives, and other public facilities in Philippines regions that are located far from the electricity grid. By providing simple and safe solar lights to such facilities, we can improve both their safety and their revenue by helping to ensure that work that is done at night is performed more safely and efficiently than under kerosene lamps. In addition, replacing kerosene lamps with solar lights will also contribute to reducing health risks, fire hazards, and CO2 emissions.
Reports of the contribution achieved by actually delivering the solar lights to medical clinics and other public facilities in the Philippines will be made later this year.

From 10:00 a.m. (Japan time), May 20, 2014 (Tue.) to 11:59 p.m. (Japan time), August 17, 2014 (Sun.)- Mileage for application
Donation will be accepted in units of 3,000 miles on JAL's website.
Counting one mile as one Japanese yen, the JAL Group will donate the equivalent amount in cash to Kopernik.
Local reports from JAL Tech Reporters
In addition to this Charity Mile Project, we also plan to accept applications for JAL Tech Reporters. Successful applicants will deliver the solar lights to medical clinics and other public facilities in the Philippines and report on how the technology is contributing to the local community. This opportunity will be advertised on the JAL Facebook page and other outlets. JAL Tech Reporters will be traveling to the Philippines this autumn.Kopernik
