Pre-flight preparations

How to reserve

There are two ways to request.

Requests via the JAL website

When making a reservation, please register the name and contact information of the person(s) who will drop off and pick up the child. (No request form or consent form needed.)

Requests at the Special Assistance Desk

After booking a ticket, please contact the Special Assistance Desk to request service for Children Traveling Alone. (Request form or consent form needed.)

Fill out a Request Form

We may request you to present a Request Form for Children Traveling Alone during the boarding process.

Please fill in the form in advance, print it out, and bring it with you to the airport counter on the date of travel.

  • The form may be filled in on the date of travel, but this may result in additional waiting time if the airport is congested. We therefore ask that it be filled in in advance.
  • A separate form is required for each leg of each child's travel. For round-trip travel, please prepare 2 forms (one for each leg). If the child's travel includes connections, please either enter the connecting flight number in the Remarks section or notify the airport counter staff.

Selecting seats

After booking your ticket, you may select seats up until 20 minutes before your flight's scheduled departure time.

  • Passengers cannot sit in exit rows for safety reasons.
  • After the flight's arrival at the destination, cabin crew member will guide the child to deplane after the other passengers. Therefore, seats toward the rear of the cabin are recommended.
  • Aircraft types are subject to change without prior notice.

At departing airport

Check-in

Please be sure to check in at the departure airport's Special Assistance Counter at least 30 minutes before the departure time.

  • A parent or guardian must accompany the child during check-in.
For unaccompanied children age 6 - 7, a signed consent form is required in addition to the request form(s).
  • Automated check-in kiosks cannot be used. Passengers traveling during summer, winter, and other holidays should plan to arrive at the airport as early as possible due to increased congestion during these times.
