Notes when using Partner Airlines Award Tickets

General rules and conditions

  • All award bookings must be made by the JMB member.
  • Regardless of who uses the award, application for the award should be made by the member himself/herself.
  • For infants and children under 5 years old, reservation of an accompanying adult is required.
  • For Partner Airlines Award Tickets, certain rules apply to unaccompanied minor(s) under 15 years of age.
  • Award travel is not permitted on the Restricted Travel Dates. At other times the number of seats available for travel may be restricted. (Seats for award use may not be available on certain flights or routes.)
  • The total mileage required for redeeming awards will be deducted from the JMB account of the applying member.
  • Members who have registered for the JALCARD Family Program can combine mileage of a main member and a sub-member.
  • Mileage can be combined among family members who have registered for the JAL Family Club.
  • Please confirm that there is enough valid mileage for award exchange. Award reservations will not be accepted if there is not enough mileage in the JMB account.
  • Mileage accumulated in other airlines' mileage programs (including JMB partner airlines) cannot be combined with JMB mileage in order to receive awards.

Validity and change of awards

  • Award tickets are valid for 1 year from the date of commencement of travel. Travel must commence within 1 year of the ticket issue date.
  • Changes before the commencement of travel are permitted only if the itinerary is within 1 year of the date the award ticket is issued. Once travel has commenced, changes are permitted if the itinerary is within 1 year of the date of commencement of travel.

Reservations made through the JAL website

The JMB member must first log in to his/her JMB account to make award ticket reservations, changes, or refund requests on the JAL website.

Eligible Award Tickets

  • Except the following Partner Airlines Award Ticket reservations are accepted on the JAL website.
  • Jetstar Japan: International flights
  • Please call the JMB International Award Reservations Desk/JMB Center to make reservations for the above awards.

Deadline for award request

Deadline for award reservations on the JAL website is 48 hours (departure city time) prior to the departure of the first flight sector.

Conditions for redeeming awards

  • Reservations will be accepted from 0 a.m. (Japan time), 360 days prior to the departure date (not including the day of departure). For round-trip itineraries, reservations are accepted from 360 days prior to the departure date of the return flight.
  • Required mileage levels for award travel are calculated based on total trip distance (TPM), which is the total of the miles traveled for each sector on an itinerary, and the class of service booked. Please use the mileage calculator below to check the total distance of your travel. If you enter a departure city and arrival city, total trip distance will be displayed. Total trip distance does not represent the required mileage level of each award. If a surface sector is included, sector mileage may not be displayed.   • At the time of using award tickets, airport taxes and/or fuel surcharges, insurance surcharges and other surcharges must be borne by the JMB member or users of awards.
  • Payment is by credit card only.
  • The actual amount billed will be in the currency used for settlement by your credit card company.
  • The following requests cannot be processed on the JAL website. Please contact JMB International Award Reservations Desk/JMB Center for assistance
  • When your itinerary departs from the U.K. and includes passenger(s) who are 15 years of age
  • When the passenger is unaccompanied minor who is 15 years of age

Itineraries

JMB Partner Airlines Award Tickets/oneworld Award Tickets

  • One-way trips are permitted.
  • "Point of origin" and "Final returning point" may be different and those cities may be located in different countries/region.
  • Itineraries cannot back-track to the point of origin in order to continue onwards to a final destination.
  • Itineraries cannot back-track to the country of origin in order to continue onwards to a third country.
  • To comply with U.S. transportation rules, itineraries between two cities in the U.S. (including Hawaii and Guam) via Japan, including itineraries regarded as "via Japan" by U.S. authorities, must include at least one international flight that is operated by a U.S. carrier.Please contact us for details.
  • Due to U.S. transportation rules, itineraries between two different Canadian cities via a U.S. city (a stay for less than 12 hours) and/or itineraries between two different Mexican cities via a U.S. city (a stay for less than 12 hours) are not permitted.

Jetstar Japan Award Tickets

  • Two flight sectors (round-trip itinerary in which the cities of origin and return are the same city) or one flight sector can be included in one award.
  • All award flight sectors must be on direct flights only.
  • Combinations of GK flights and other airlines' flights are not eligible for awards.

Flight sectors and stopovers

JMB Partner Airlines Award Tickets/oneworld Award Tickets

  • "One city" can be included three times at maximum for the whole itinerary. Stopovers at "one city" are permitted once in the whole itinerary.
  • One surface sector is permitted in the whole itinerary.
  • A surface sector is counted to be "one stopover" regardless of the sojourn time
  • The distance of a surface sector will not be included in total trip distance* (miles). Please note that itineraries that contain certain surface sectors will not be permitted as one award ticket, depending on how the surface sector is arranged.
    Example: When the distance of the surface sector is greater than the distance from the first flight sector's departure city to the surface sector's starting point.
  • Total trip distance is used to calculate the number of miles required for an award ticket.

JMB Partner Airlines Award Tickets

  • For each award, a maximum of 6 flight excluding surface sectors will be permitted in the whole itinerary, except for the following partner airlines' awards. On the JAL website, a maximum of 4 origin-destination combinations can be selected. (Transit points cannot be selected.)
  • Korean Air: a maximum of 2 flight sectors will be perimtted
  • China Eastern Airlines: a maximum of 4 flight sectors will be permitted. China domestic sectors are permitted for a maximum of 2 flight sectors.
  • Hawaiian Airlines: a maximum of 4 flight sectors will be permitted. Hawaiian inter island sectors are permitted for a maximum of 2 flight sectors.
    • Royal Air Maroc: a maximum of 4 flight sectors will be permitted.
  • For each award, a maximum of 3 stopovers (a stay of more than 24 hours in 1 city or a surface sector) are permitted in the whole itinerary.
    For China Eastern Airlines, for international travel originating in China, stopovers in China are not permitted.

oneworld Award Tickets

  • For each award, a maximum of 8 flight sectors excluding surface sectors will be permitted in the whole itinerary.
  • Two Japan domestic flight sectors can be included in the whole itinerary.
  • For each award, a maximum of 7 stopovers (a stay more than 24 hours or surface sector) are permitted in the whole itinerary.
  • For itineraries originating in Japan, stopovers within Japan are not permitted.

Reservation changes on the JAL website

Deadline for reservation change

The deadline for changing reservations for ticketed awards on the JAL website is as follows.

  • Before the commencement of travel: 48 hours (departure city time) prior to the departure of the first flight sector of the old or new itinerary, whichever is earlier.
  • After travel has commenced: (1) 48 hours (departure city time) prior to flight departure of the new itinerary, and (2) 24 hours (departure city time) prior to the departure of the next flight.

Conditions for changing reservations

  • Reservation change for the flight and flight date within the same sector is possible. To change an itinerary with a stay of less than 24 hours at a point of transfer or stopover en route to a stay of over 24 hours or vice versa, please contact JMB International Award Reservations Desk/JMB Center.
  • You may be requested to pay for any difference that arises in fuel surcharges, insurance surcharges, and other charges.
  • If special services have been requested at the time of booking, reservation changes may not be applicable on the JAL website.

Cases in which reservation changes cannot be processed

The following cases cannot be processed on the JAL website. Please contact JMB International Award Reservations Desk/JMB Center for assistance.

  • When your reservation includes an infant who will share a seat with an adult
  • When the currency used for payment at ticketing is different from the currency used on the JAL website
    (The currency used on the JAL website differs depending on your selected country/region.)
  • When you wish to make or have already made the following changes:
    Changing your reservation from the booked class to a lower class of service (the difference in miles between the higher and lower class will not be refunded)
    Changing your reservation for a flight sector from the booked class to the ticketed higher class of service
  • When your itinerary departs from the U.K. and includes passenger(s) who are 15 years of age
  • When the passenger is an unaccompanied minor under 15 years of age
  • Award tickets for which reservation changes have been made due to flight cancellation, flight schedule change, or other such reason
  • When special arrangements or services have been requested

Cancellation/refund on the JAL website

Deadline for cancellation/refund

  • Except the following tickets, the deadline of award reservation cancellation/refund on the JAL website is 3 hours prior to the departure time.
    • Jetstar Japan: International flights

  • Partial cancellations/refunds will not be accepted. JMB Partner Airlines Award Tickets can be canceled/refunded until 23:59 (departure city time) on the day prior to the commencement of travel.

Conditions for cancellation/refund

  • A refund charge of JPY3,100 (or the local currency equivalent for regions other than Japan) is required per passenger per award. Payment must be made by credit card.
  • Failure to board a reserved flight will render the award ticket null and void. In this case, the mileage redeemed for the award ticket cannot be refunded to the original account or exchanged for a different award.
  • Only the JMB member, who has applied for award ticket may request cancellation/refund.
  • Reservation cancellation/refund is only applicable to award tickets before the commencement of travel.
  • Mileage that are expired at the time of reservation cancellation/refund may not be reinstated.
  • Taxes, fuel surcharges and other charges will be refunded to the credit card used for the payment. (It may take 1 to 2 months for the process.)
  • Any collected Ticket Service Fee will not be refunded.

Cases in which cancellation/refund cannot be processed

In the following cases, reservations cannot be cancelled/refunded on the JAL website. Please contact JMB International Award Reservations Desk/JMB Center for assistance.

  • When you select India on the JAL website
  • When you have already checked in
  • When your reservation includes an infant who will share a seat with an adult
  • When the currency used for payment at ticketing is different from the currency used on the JAL website
    (The currency used on the JAL website differs depending on your selected country/region.)
  • When you wish to make or have already made the following changes:
    Changing your reservation from the booked class to a lower class of service (the difference in miles between the higher and lower class will not be refunded)
    Changing your reservation for a flight sector from the booked class to the ticketed higher class of service
  • When your itinerary departs from the U.K. and includes passenger(s) who are 15 years of age
  • When the passenger is an unaccompanied minor under 15 years of age.

Others

  • Information provided by the JAL website or announced via the latest communication medium will take precedence over previous contents in terms of conditions of use for the awards.
  • Conditions for the use of awards are subject to change without prior notice.
  • Conditions of International Carriage will apply.
  • Please check the validity of your passport and requirement of visa. If visa is required, please obtain visa by yourself.
